‘This is the worst, and things can only get better from now on.’
I always used to assure myself with naively thoughts. Those were moments that felt like rock bottom - if only we knew what was around the corner. As the ball kept rolling its way down hill, nobody could see the end. I did not even dare to think of the end, of all the pain and suffering along the way.
In recent years, the world is starting to realise that us humans have done too much unrecoverable damage to the world around us. As days creep closer this mythical date of twenty-somethng December 2012, conversations have been heating up how those possibly last moments of life are to be spent. Crumbling mountains, roaring winds, rushing waters, shattering cities, it sounds all too real.
Imagine if the day really came, when the sky comes crashing down. Desperate mothers will be grasping their crying children, calling out to the working fathers, far far away. During those last few minutes of life on earth, where will you be?
Who will you be thinking at the back your mind?
What will you be regretting, what will you be saying?
Would you rather die alone, or holding someone’s precious hand?
Would you miss it all, or be craving for the end?
Perhaps, the end is closer than we think. We are told to ’be careful what we wish for, because sometimes we might just get it’. To those lost and struggling today, if it’s of any comfort to you, the world still seems to be holding on. That may be a sign for you to strong too. There is always light at the end of one tunnel. There is always a way out, it’s merely a choice of fight or flight.
